Everyone knows they're going to die, so the story is in how they live the rest of their lives in the little time they have left. #reading #postapocalyptic #bookstagram

#100happybookdays Lovestruck Summer - This is the charming summer book everyone is always looking for and yet no one seems to know about. This is probably due to the generic, borderline-hokey cover. It's set in Austin and is great for people who love music, stories about growing up and books that are good. #day13 #reading #bookstagram

#100happybookdays Cinnamon Rain by Emma Cameron - Published as Out of This Place in the US, this Australian novel in verse is a special novel about friendship, small towns and dreams. It went in directions I didn't expect and is a book I pick up off my shelf frequently to thumb through favorite passages. Recommended for people who love beautiful writing and stories with heart. #reading #bookstagram #australian #candlewick

#100happybookdays Something Like Normal by @trishwritesbooks - Sometimes fantastic books have covers that don't make a lot of sense, as is the case of this one. SLN is written in the absolutely compelling first person point-of-view of a returned soldier suffering from PTSD. I read it in one sitting and then re-read it shortly thereafter. #reading #day16 #bookstagram

#100happybookdays Come See About Me by C.K. Kelly Martin - While I've really liked all of Martin's novels, this is my favorite, and her only novel for adults. It tackles grief and trauma and finding a community in a truly unique way and the voice is one you won't forget. #reading #bookstagram #day17

#100happybookdays In the Strange South Seas by Beatrice Grimshaw (1907) - Grimshaw's work is inherently problematic because she saw the world through the eyes of a colonizer. And yet it's also important in that in a time when women had very limited professional opportunities, if any, she figured out a way to make a career and life for herself traveling and writing books for women. I wrote my MA thesis on Grimshaw and was dumped by my advisor because her work was not "significant," because she wrote for a popular audience. This was in a women's studies program, and the marginalization of women's writing and the female audience was prevalent even in that context. #bookstagram #history #womenslit #day18

#100happybookdays The Big Blowdown by George Pelecanos - I've read most of Pelecanos' books and this one, set in the 1940s, is probably my favorite--an this UK edition's cover is A+. If you've even reluctant to try crime fiction, his books are a great choice with their vibrant DC setting and memorable characters. #reading #bookstagram
